Editorial
Thank you
for all your Love and support with my recent medical
emergency. It was incredibly helpful and emotionally sustaining.
Oh, Life! I find myself typing this letter with only one left
finger.
This
recent massive stroke was caused, in part, by a congenital arterial abnormality.
After 4 1/2 days in a coldcoma
and 2 weeks in the Intensive
Care Unit (ICU), it's all good. Thank God I had a great deal of SOL # 11
already finished. I still talk and walk funnily, but will fully recover. That
was the prognosis by the neurosurgeon after only three days, and the
lifesaving removal of two blood clots and a complicated insertion of
two stents to reinforce the arteries.
What a shock, especially with no major health insurance coverage,
except for a hospital stay, which would not even cover one single day at
the ICU. ( I "resided" there for almost two weeks.) Meanwhile, poor
Benny, my husband, is figuring out what the cost of a wife is? The, not
so scenic, ambulance ride alone was $3,000.,
but was partially paid for
by my clients through a medical fund they started for me; (thank you
for THAT, Deb'!) although initially they threatened my poor husband,
with his credit and income lost: a wife in the hospital with a massive
stroke who could neither talk nor move to add to his nightmare: "a collection
agency if he didn't pay within 15 days." Then, the Rehab center
wanted to be paid ahead in cash, too! Ah, well, healthcare
in the US!
(The hospital itself was much nicer, financially spoken, but much
harder on the normal
human pocketbook.)
Of course we are in a constant
process of physical rehabilitation on our Space of Love instead,
which is where we live. Weedpulling,
digging and planting is much better
for the soul AND body.
My sister Birgit came from Berlin, Germany and helped us so
much, and fell in love with our foodspiral
(see SOL #8) , while she
planted my vegetables there.
Everyone's sentiment is best captured by this poem, written while
I was "flying" around, having a great time "dying" my fifth time, in my
coma this time, remembering only that my husband asked "if I had to
be kept THIS cold," and they said ''Yes":
